Oregon Historical Society

For 125 years, the Oregon Historical Society has served as the state’s collective memory, preserving a vast collection of objects, photographs, maps, manuscript materials, books, films, and oral histories.

Challenge

  • Over the past 25 years, Oregon Historical Society has been utilizing Microsoft Access to manage all submissions and reviews for their Quarterly publication. This database was very static in nature with limited workflow capabilities.
  • OHS began utilizing Airtable for additional workflow management that was disconnected from the Microsoft Access application.
  • OHS needed a modern consolidated database and workflow engine to manage submission and review processes.

Solution

  • Designed a modern web application in Quickbase that can be accessed from anywhere at any time with templatized workflow engine.
  • Developed a web submission portal for authors to submit manuscripts rather than legacy email driven processes.
  • Migrated all legacy Microsoft Access data to Quickbase and replace Airtable workflows.
"The product is good, one with which we are very pleased, but the best part of the process was our working relationship with Trinity staff, which was exceptional. Kurt took the time to understand a workplace and product that was completely unknown to him, and he approached our needs with curiosity and creativity, communicating with us clearly so that we learned along the way about how to make the database work most effectively for our needs. It was a great experience, and we recommend Trinity without reservation."
